What is Brick City Records?
Brick City Records is Ohio University’s premier record label and focuses on providing students real world experience in multiple aspects of the recording and music industry. Brick City is operated by School of Media Arts & Studies students and works with musicians to provide recording, promotion, distribution, publicity, and concert booking services.
Each year, Brick City produces and distributes new releases for a select number of artists, culminating in a large release concert in April. Our release show this year will be on April 20, 2017 at The Union in Athens, Ohio.
Why Are We Creating a Campaign?
In previous years, Brick City Records was not much more than a group of students recording on-campus talent for some basic recording experience – well this year we gave that entire process a major overhaul. Brick City Records is now a year-long effort by a collection of students who work together to run a record label with minimal faculty involvement.
Currently we are working with four artists originating from different areas of Ohio and have 3 EPs and 1 single, slotted for releases at the end of March into April. Music videos have also been created for each one of our artists to accompany their ‘single’.
The underlying goal is to create and promote an artist showcase in April to show off our artists’ work. To put on a great show – we need to have the available necessities, these include: promotion materials, stage-design, equipment, and merchandise. All of us here at Brick City believe our artists have created strong upcoming releases and we want their music to be heard by as many people as possible.
How YOU can help
We have launched a Kickstarter campaign to cover our expenses. As a student organization, we do not receive funding from the university. Fortunately, we have free access to recording studios and editing software. However, we must raise funds for general upkeep of the label, website domain costs, merchandise, promotion materials, stage lighting, equipment, etc. Our campaign also features tickets to the show for specific tier donations. This is a great way to make sure you get your ticket to our release show at The Union on 4.20.2017!
